چکیده
We present the results of a combined experimental and numerical study free-surface flow behind finite height rigid vertical cylinder. The experiments measure drag wake angle on cylinders different diameters for range velocities corresponding to 30,000 <Re< 200,000 0.2<Fr<2 where Reynolds Froude numbers are based diameter. three-dimensional large eddy simulations use conservative level-set method air-water interface, thus predicting pressure, vorticity, elevation onset air entrainment. deep looks like single phase turbulent past cylinder, but close free-surface, interaction between wall, is taking place, leading reduced cylinder appearance V-shaped surface wave patterns. For velocities, vortex shedding suppressed in layer region below free surface. patterns mostly follow capillary-gravity theory, which predicts crest lines cusps. Interestingly, it also indicates regions strong fluctuations location entrainment observed experiments. Overall, these new simulation results, drag, entrainment, compare quantitatively with

Numerical Simulations of Wave-Induced Flow Fields around Large-Diameter Surface-Piercing Vertical Circular Cylinder
A computational analysis is performed on the diffraction of water waves induced by large-diameter, surface-piercing, vertical circular cylinder. With reference to linear-wave cases, the phenomenon is preliminarly considered in terms of velocity potential, a simplified theoretical framework in which both hypotheses of inviscid fluid and irrotational flow are incorporated. Then, and as a first-ap...
متن کاملGravity-driven granular free-surface flow around a circular cylinder
Snow avalanches and other hazardous geophysical granular flows, such as debris flows, lahars and pyroclastic flows, often impact on obstacles as they flow down a slope, generating rapid changes in the flow height and velocity in their vicinity. It is important to understand how a granular material flows around such obstacles to improve the design of deflecting and catching dams, and to correctl...
متن کاملEffects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder
In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...
متن کاملVertical and Rocking Impedances for Surface Rigid Foundation Resting on a Transversely Isotropic Half-Space
The vertical and rocking impedances of a rigid foundation resting on a semi-infinite transversely isotropic medium are obtained in the frequency domain. In the present approach, the contact pressure distribution on the soil foundation-interface is approximated by a linear combination of known pressure patterns. It is shown herein that the approximate solutions of spatial displacement distributi...
متن کاملFlow Structure from a Horizontal Cylinder Coincident with a Free Surface in Shallow Water Flow
Vortex formation from a horizontal cylinder coincident with a free surface of a shallow water flow having a depth of 25.4 mm was experimentally investigated using the particle image velocimetry technique. Instantaneous and time-averaged flow patterns in the wake region of the cylinder were examined for three different cylinder diameter values under the fully developed turbulent boundary layer c...
